Some local music lovers in Conroe, Texas began the Sounds of Texas Music Series in 1997 after they had spent an evening attempting unsuccessfully to listen to one of their favorite singer-songwriters in a noisy local club. The series began as a single show featuring Guy Clark in the acoustically perfect historic Crighton Theatre. Over ten years later, they are still producing one of the best music series in the state of Texas by offering patrons a chance to hear a wide variety of new, undiscovered artists as well as seasoned veteran performers in a listening room environment.

VINCE GILL

"The beauty of really good singer-songwriters - apart from the songs of course - is their handy adaptability to different venues. They can play pretty much anywhere: coffee shops, restaurants, honky-tonks, outdoor music festivals, you name it. Still, no room suits the genre better than an intimate listening room - or better yet, an intimate listening theatre with truly amazing acoustics. A venue, in other words, exactly like downtown Conroe's historic Crighton Theatre, proud home of the sterling Sounds of Texas Music Series. Presenting only a handful of shows a year, the folks who run this series can afford to be selective in their bookings, ensuring a great lineup season after season. Even better, the series double-bill presentations give you twice the songwriter bang for your buck."

Richard Skanse, Texas Music Magazine, Spring 2007
